Sensory Integration and Creative Imagination in Shaping Artistic Expression among the Blind: Ashraf Armagan as a Model

The present study aimed to investigate the role of sensory integration and creative imagination in shaping artistic expression among blind individuals, using a descriptive analytical approach. It examined the relationship between non-visual sensory experience, based on alternative senses such as touch, hearing, and movement, and the development of sensory perception, in light of the theory of sensory integration. It also discussed the role of creative imagination in recognizing sensory experience and transforming into mental representations that contributed to artistic expression. This was applied through the analysis of the experience of the artist, Ashraf Armagan, as a model that illustrated the interaction between sensory integration and creative imagination in artistic production. The study concluded that artistic expression among blind individuals depended on the integration of sensory perception and creative imagination, where sensory integration provided the perceptual foundation, while imagination recognized experience within the cognitive structure, leading to aesthetically and expressively rich artworks. The findings emphasized the importance of employing sensory integration and developing imagination in art education programs for the blind.
