Abstract

The present study is grounded in the importance of intuitive thinking as a cognitive ability that relies on direct perception and accumulated experience in artistic decision-making, as well as the significance of aesthetic awareness in perceiving aesthetic values and analyzing artistic productions. To achieve this aim, the researchers conducted a study to investigate the relationship between intuitive thinking and aesthetic awareness among postgraduate (Master’s) students in the Department of Art Education. The study adopted the descriptive correlational approach, and the sample consisted of (12) male and female postgraduate students from the Department of Art Education, College of Fine Arts, University of Baghdad, for the academic year (2023–2024). To accomplish the research objectives, the intuitive thinking scale and the aesthetic awareness test were used after being adapted and validated. Data were analyzed using Pearson’s correlation coefficient. The results revealed a strong positive statistically significant correlation between intuitive thinking and aesthetic awareness, with a correlation coefficient of (0.820) at the significance level of (0.05). The study concluded that intuitive thinking and aesthetic awareness constitute an integrated cognitive–affective system that contributes to the development of artistic analysis and aesthetic decision-making among art education students
