This research investigates the role of surface treatments as a perceptual variable in contemporary metal craft design by examining their impact on users’ visual and sensory perception. The research problem emerges from the limited studies addressing the relationship between metal surfaces and perceptual response within contemporary metal crafts. The study adopted a descriptive-analytical approach supported by an applied experimental framework. A series of metal craft models were produced using four surface treatments: hammering, polishing, oxidation, and metal perforation. A questionnaire was administered to a sample of 68 participants to evaluate perceptual dimensions related to visual attractiveness, warmth, craftsmanship, and perceptual clarity. The findings revealed significant differences among surface treatments. Hammered surfaces achieved the highest levels of sensory interaction, while polished surfaces showed greater visual attractiveness and luxury perception. The study confirms that surface treatments play a fundamental role in shaping the perceptual experience of contemporary metal crafts.
