Abstract

This study investigates the role of design thinking in enhancing metal product design from a user-centered perspective, shifting from traditional static solutions toward more structured and adaptive approaches. A descriptive–analytical method supported by a design-led experimental framework was adopted. Three metal serving tray models were developed to represent different levels of design treatment: traditional, structured, and adaptive. The models were evaluated by a sample of 44 participants using a structured questionnaire measuring perception, usability, efficiency, user experience, innovation, and preference. The results revealed statistically significant differences among the models, with the adaptive design achieving the highest scores, followed by the structured and traditional models. The findings indicate that improving design structure—particularly through organization and adaptability—has a direct impact on enhancing user experience and increasing user preference. The study highlights the importance of adopting design thinking as an effective approach for developing metal products and improving overall design quality.
