يتفرع من الفيلم الروائي العديد التيارات السينمائية التي تعمد على معالجة المواضيع بشكل جمالي وتعبيرية لإيصال المضامين الفكرية والجمالية إلى المتلقي، وبما أن جميع التيارات السينمائية بدأت منذ وجود الفن السينمائي أخذ صانع السينما السوداء بتناول الموضوعات التي تحاول معالجتها بشكل روائي، بما يعكس هويتهم ووجود ذلك التيار ضمن باقي التيارات الأخرى، لذا يحاول الباحث تسليط الضوء على الملامح التي تميز تلك السينما عن باقي السينمات الأخرى.
