Abstract

The social environment holds a significant role in shaping the images and perceptions of any society, city, or even an entire country. It is not an ordinary environment; its importance lies in the diversity it encompasses, which penetrates even the finest details, ultimately forming the final image of societies. This environment carries within it concepts and messages, enabling it—deservedly—to become a vital reference upon which artists rely in shaping the themes of their artistic works.

The present study begins with the methodological framework, which includes the research problem, its significance, objectives, and boundaries, followed by the definition of terms. As for the theoretical framework, the study comprises two main sections. The first section addresses the topic: "The Social Environment and Its Representations in the Visual Field," in which the researchers discuss the two dominant types that represent the social face of the environment in the visual field. The second section explores: "The Displacement of Environmental Themes in Iraqi Painting," examining the stages through which the environment has evolved in Iraqi art, leading to its current form.

The research procedures included identifying the research community, sample, tools, and methodology, followed by the analysis of samples, presentation of results, and conclusions reached by the researchers, among which are:

  1. Iraqi artists have embodied the social environment according to their personal visions and diverse techniques. Their work varies between realistic and imaginative approaches, capturing details that are sometimes rendered with extreme precision and at other times presented in a simplified form.
  2. The experiences of Iraqi painters are diverse in their engagement with different types of social environments, with their inspirations not limited to one type over another.
