Abstract

Folk heritage represents a fundamental component of cultural identity, reflecting the accumulated values, traditions, and social practices that have been transmitted across generations. Artistic practices play a significant role in preserving and reinterpreting this heritage through contemporary visual expressions. In this context, the present study aims to investigate the reflection of folk heritage in the artistic productions of art education students at the Open Educational College and to analyze the extent to which heritage elements are integrated into their artworks.

The study adopted a descriptive analytical approach. A total of 80 student artworks produced by second- and third-year art education students were analyzed. In addition, a questionnaire was administered to a sample of 120 students to explore their awareness of folk heritage and the factors influencing its integration into artistic practice.

The results revealed that heritage elements appeared prominently in most artworks, particularly in architectural forms, decorative patterns, and traditional color schemes. The findings also indicated that students demonstrate a high level of awareness regarding the importance of folk heritage in artistic expression and cultural identity formation. However, several challenges were identified, including limited material resources, insufficient time allocated for practical courses, and a lack of field-based heritage activities.

The study recommends strengthening the integration of folk heritage within art education curricula and developing educational programs that encourage creative engagement with cultural heritage in contemporary artistic practices.
