Representations. of despairAbstract
This research explores the concept of despair as a significant theme that has profoundly impacted the nature and identity of the Iraqi individual, particularly during the war and its resulting anxieties on all levels of Iraqi life, especially the psychological, social, and economic. Given the unique role of theater in communication and reception, this study sheds light on despair. The study includes an introduction in which the researchers present the research problem, its significance, and its objective. The theoretical framework, which provides a theoretical foundation for the research, comprises two sections: the philosophical and psychological portrayals of despair, and the portrayal of despair in world theater. The researchers developed a set of indicators used to analyze the research sample, specifically a model by the writer Ammar Naama Jaber, which aligns with the research objective. Following the analysis, the researchers arrived at several conclusions, including:
- 1. . Environmental factors played a prominent role in the intensity of the despair experienced by the characters at sea.
- 2. . Economic factors played a significant role in the high levels of despair among the characters at the bottom of the ship.
3. Despair overwhelmed the characters in the room at the bottom after they lost their will and became prisoners of their circumstances.
