Abstract

The research title, "Color Techniques in Contemporary Iraqi Painting and Their Reflection on the Works of Art Education Students," is of significant importance. This research examines the role of color and its expressive and aesthetic techniques in shaping the identity of contemporary Iraqi painting. It does so by analyzing the styles of several Iraqi artists who have contributed to the development of the visual arts scene from the mid-20th century to the present, and their influence on the works of art education students. The research also aims to reveal the relationship between color technique and the intellectual and symbolic dimensions of artwork, and how color is employed as a means of expressing aesthetic values, social and political realities, and Iraqi cultural identity, and the extent of its influence on the works of art education students. The researcher adopted a descriptive and analytical approach, studying a selection of works by artists such as Faeq Hassan, Shaker Hassan Al Said, Ismail Al Sheikhly, and others. The study analyzes their use of color in terms of gradation, color layers, texture, and transparency, as well as the relationship between color, light, and space in artistic composition.

The results showed that contemporary Iraqi artists utilize color not only as an aesthetic element but also as an intellectual and symbolic tool for expressing the self, the environment, and popular heritage. Techniques varied, ranging from realism and abstraction to symbolism and expressionism. Modern materials (acrylic, collage, and synthetic pigments) also played a prominent role in enriching visual experiences and renewing styles.

The research concludes that color techniques in contemporary Iraqi painting and their reflection in the works of art education students represent a blend of local heritage and a contemporary global vision. This has given Iraqi art a distinctive character that combines originality and experimentation, national sentiment, and openness to modernity. The researcher divided her study into four sections: the methodological framework, the research methodology, and the need for it. The central question was: What are the color techniques in contemporary Iraqi painting, and to what extent are they reflected in the works of art education students? The importance of the research lies in highlighting the techniques of contemporary Iraqi painting, the impact of these techniques on the works of art education students, and the benefits reflected in their artwork. This research aimed to explore color techniques and their impact on the artwork of students in the Department of Art Education. The research was limited to three main areas: the human element (students of the Department of Art Education), the geographical area (the College of Fine Arts, University of Baghdad), the temporal area (2018-2024), and finally, the thematic scope of contemporary Iraqi painting techniques. The theoretical framework was divided into two sections: Section One: A Historical Introduction to Contemporary Iraqi Painting, its Roots and Beginnings; Section Two: Color Techniques in Contemporary Iraqi Painting. The research methodology involved analyzing the artwork of third-year students in the morning program of the Department of Art Education. The study comprised ten artworks. The current research focused on five of these artworks. The analysis employed a descriptive-analytical approach, testing the effectiveness of the theoretical framework's indicators in aesthetic, artistic, and technical aspects.

The researcher's findings and their discussion are as follows:

1- Color is a fundamental element in contemporary Iraqi artistic expression. It is no longer used merely as an aesthetic tool, but has become an intellectual and symbolic instrument expressing the artist's human, social, and political stance.2- The analysis showed that Iraqi artists have developed their own techniques in dealing with color, drawing inspiration from the local environment, folklore, and Mesopotamian and Islamic arts. This has given their works a distinctive character that combines authenticity and modernity. 3- Color techniques varied between gradations and color transparency using oil and watercolor paints, and experimental techniques such as acrylics, collage, and the mixing of materials and rough or burnt surfaces to give a symbolic or expressive dimension to color. It became clear that color in Iraqi painting is often linked to symbol and meaning: earthy colors symbolize the land and memory; red symbolizes suffering or revolution; blue and green signify spirituality and inner peace.

The use of modern techniques (synthetic pigments, digital media, and mixed media) contributed to expandi4_ the horizons of artistic experimentation and created a new visual language that transcends the traditional boundaries of painting. It confirmed that the contemporary Iraqi artist was able to find a balance between global influences and local identity by employing color as a bridge connecting modernity and cultural specificity

5- Color techniques have become a mirror reflecting the intellectual and social transformations in Iraq, as paintings reflect a mixture of pain and hope, belonging and rebellion, and the continuous search for beauty amidst change. The conclusions include: 1. A weakness in the artwork due to students' use of specific color

. 2. A shortage of textbooks on color in art for teaching students in the Department of Art Education. The

. The research concludes with a list of sources used by the researcher to enrich its content.
